Macbeth at Southern Bard reimagined Shakespeare’s tragedy as a darkly comic Southern Gothic tale. Set against a world of superstition, ambition, and twisted family loyalties, the production leaned into the play’s violence and absurdity to reveal the humor lurking beneath its darkest moments. Ben McFadden directed the production, balancing Shakespeare’s language with a heightened Southern Gothic style to create a theatrical world that was both unsettling and irreverent.
